Upstate Women In Emergency Medicine

The Department of Emergency Medicine is proud to have over 30 women faculty members along with 4 fellows and 8 residents in 2021. The presence of women in the department is strong and vibrant. We have three full professors and many departmental associate professors. Our department prides itself in helping each individual member to find just the right fit clinically, academically, in research and in leadership that works for them in their lives.

Mission

Women in Emergency Medicine is a committee that seeks to provide a network of professional and personal support, mentorship, education, and information exchange for women in the Department of Emergency Medicine. We seek to provide opportunities for success for women in an academic emergency department.

Goals

To promote professional advancement and leadership for women within the Department of Emergency Medicine including providing opportunities for women to acquire the necessary skills and strategies needed to ensure equality of participation, professional advancement and compensation.
To acknowledge and promote the importance of diversity, humanism, varied career paths, personal wellness and a healthy, balanced life for all in the Department of Emergency Medicine.
To provide mentoring opportunities and mutual support for women in emergency medicine, including providing positive role models for fellows, residents, medical students, and allied health professionals.
To assure that women are provided the opportunity to attain senior faculty rank and leadership positions identifying possible barriers to the professional advancement of women in the Department of Emergency Medicine and to develop strategies to address them.
To promote the recruitment and retention of female faculty.
To compile and share knowledge, information, and resources concerning issues pertaining to women in academic EM through research, education, and faculty development initiatives
To serve as a resource to the Department of Emergency Medicine on issues related to women in Emergency Medicine.
To communicate widely the successes of women in the Department of Emergency Medicine.
